All referrals to Harewood Park are from professional agencies.
Admissions are planned and the prospective resident visits Harewood Park with the referring agency, at least once in order to meet staff, other residents and to see the House. An overnight stay may be arranged. Coming to a new environment can be daunting but if the newcomer has visited Harewood Park, this helps to reduce some of the anxieties they have on admission.
Relevant background information is obtained and the initial interview provides the opportunity to discuss the reasons why an admission is been sought. It also enables the resident to make the decision to choose Harewood Park. Relatives may also visit prior to admission with the consent of the prospective resident.
An application form is completed and funding secured by the referring agency before any admission takes place.
The initial assessment period is for a minimum of four to six weeks and at the end of which a review meeting takes place with the resident, the referring agency and Harewood Park staff. This is to confirm the suitability of the placement.
Residents are required to sign an Acceptance of Stay form which is fully discussed with them
