The Main House was extended in the 1850s and originally owned by landed gentry with many acres of farmland. Over time most of the farm's land was dispersed but it remained a working farm until the late 1970s.

The two directors met in 1981 as colleagues working in a specialist rehabilitation team within the local NHS psychiatric hospital. One director has a background in nursing and the other in social work.

With the proposed closure of the long stay hospitals the directors carried out extensive research which identified the need for a community based rehabilitation service for younger adults.

Identifying a suitable property, in the right area, took a long time but eventually Harewood Park was discovered in Cheadle.

Purchased by the Directors in May 1986 Harewood Park was virtually derelict with two acres of land remaining. The next five months saw an extensive refurbishment take place and Harewood Park was registered as a Mental Nursing Home in October 1986 by North Staffordshire Health Authority for 16 persons.

Over the past 22 years Harewood Park has grown and developed but continues to offer rehabilitation and care in the hands of the same directors.

Cheadle itself is a small market town with shops, library, leisure centre, cafés, places of worship, college and a good bus service. The people of Cheadle are very friendly and supportive and a number of employees are from the local area.

Admissions are planned and the prospective resident visits Harewood Park with the referring agency, at least once in order to meet staff, other residents and to see the House. [more]
On 15th October 2008 long service awards were presented to eight members of staff, three have over 20 years service, two have 12 years service and three 11 years service. [more]
