Harewood Park was established in 1986 to specialise in Rehabilitation and, for the majority of the residents, this remains the core objective.
Over time however the service offered had evolved with the need to provide long term care for a group of our residents. They had been through a rehabilitation programme which identified the fact that they were in need of care and unable to move on to independent living.
A third group of seven residents benefit from living in a smaller setting providing personal care and support. Former farm buildings within the curtlidge of the Harewood Park have been refurbished to form ‘The Cottages’.
Harwood Park accommodates 37 younger adults of both sexes. Admissions are only accepted under pension age. The minimum age on admission is 18 years.
Residents have mental illnesses, mild learning disability, a dual diagnosis or an acquired brain injury. They must be ambulant but may have physical problems including Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, and Diabetes.
Harewood Park uses a Holistic approach to meet individual needs and follow the Care Co-ordinating model of Assessment, Care Planning, Implementing and Reviewing.
We work as a multi – disciplinary team including Registered Nurses, Therapeutic Aids, Care Aids, Consultants, GPs, Social Workers, CPNs, Relatives/Carers and other professionals involved with the individual resident.
Residents are totally involved in devising their Care Plans, Assessments and in the Review process. They are encouraged to develop responsibility for self and decision making with their disabilities.
Residents are required to sign an Acceptance of Stay form which is fully discussed with them.
Harewood Park will admit residents who are subject to the 117 After Care arrangements, Community based Sections of the Mental Health Act. These are community base provisions.
